Schöffel Country Ptarmigan gin
Celebrating 30 Years of Schöffel Country
This year marks an incredible 30 years of Schöffel Country. In celebration of this milestone, we’ve spent the past twelve months developing a commemorative new edition of our Ptarmigan Gin with Rutland-based distiller Multum Gin Parvo.
Our brief for the gin was simple, to celebrate Schöffel’s heritage by bringing together botanicals from our headquarters in the Bavarian Alps in Germany, the British Countryside around Oakham, Rutland where the Schöffel Country team are based and the habitat of the Ptarmigan, after which our shooting coat range is named.
We also wanted to pair with a local distillery and Multum Gin Parvo, whose name is a play on the Rutland moto Multum-in-Parvo meaning much-in-little, were just the right fit.
The first stage was to meet with the Multum Gin Parvo team to discuss our brief. Head distiller Simon Brannon was on hand to suggest an initial plan involving botanicals that would represent the brand, could be sourced locally where possible and pair perfectly.
We decided these would be elderberries and apple blossom from the Rutland Countryside, heather flower and rowan berries from the Scottish Highlands and pine needles from the Bavarian Alps in Germany. These botanicals would be complimented by citrus notes and cardamon to enhance the flavour profile and add some sweetness and freshness.
Then followed two very exciting rounds of tasting with the Schöffel Country team to refine our recipe before moving onto the bottling process. To finish off our bottle, we worked with local illustrator and interior designer Katie Cardew to create a bespoke label incorporating the Rutland horseshoe, the botanicals that feature in the gin and the Ptarmigan.
Complimentary G&T’s will be served from the Schöffel Ptarmigan Gin Bar to customers of Bredon Hill on their stand at The Game Fair at Ragley Hall from the 28th-30th July.
