Schöffel was founded in 1804 in Bavaria, Germany and has since prospered by combining innovation and technology with meticulous attention to superb styling and outstanding quality. The company is currently looked after by Peter Schöffel, the sixth generation of the family, and is renowned for high-performance technical clothing of the very highest calibre.

A perfect partnership

In the early 1990s, the Schöffel family teamed up with Corry Cavell-Taylor, a passionate countryman and the managing director of Bradshaw Taylor, to develop a range of country clothing tailored to the needs of the British fieldsports market.

It all started with the Ptarmigan Shooting Coat, the idea for which came to Corry on a bitterly cold day's shooting in Northamptonshire. Only the week before, he'd been skiing – quite comfortably – in -31 degrees, wearing Schöffel skiwear.

Uninspired by the performance of the ubiquitious wax jacket, Corry persuaded Hubert Schöffel to let him take the GORE-TEX fabric technology which was widely used in the brand's ski and outdoor clothing ranges, and use it to create the UK’s first 100% waterproof, windproof, breathable, and machine-washable coat for the country market.

Thirty years on

More than three decades later and the relationship between the two family-run companies continues to flourish. The Schöffel Country brand, now truly synonymous with the British countryside, has grown and developed to offer a broad range of technical, stylish and practical clothing for discerning countrymen and women.
